Sunday 11/6: Apple Pie and Scrabble

I got up at 9:30am today so that I could make an apple pie to bring to a lunch date at Catherine and Ralf’s friends’ house. It turned out really well (despite the fact that the oven doesn’t really work on the bottom) and we brought some vanilla ice cream to put on top.

At 12:30pm, Catherine, Ralf, and I headed over to Mathilde and her boyfriend (I don’t remember his name!)’s house. There were ten of us total and we had finger foods for lunch, while sitting around chatting.

It was interesting to me that 6/10 of the people there smoke—such a difference from home! It still surprises me when people get up to go have a smoke break. My pie was a success—I got lots of compliments! We left around 3:15pm when most of the guests left to go to the rugby match. It was raining, so Catherine and Ralf decided not to go (I was happy—it costs €10!).

When we got home, Catherine, Margot, and I played a game of Junior Scrabble. It was pretty dumb, actually—real Scrabble is much more fun. We decided that Catherine should buy the real game so we can teach it to Margot. I’m really looking forward to it, as it will be a real challenge in French because don’t know all the helpful little words (like: QI, ZA, XI) that I know in English. Once we finished the game, I headed upstairs to write some letters and skype with Mark.

Tonight we had my homemade spaghetti sauce for dinner! And, it was a huge success!! Everyone loved it and the kids requested that I make it again! They also had the leftovers of the pie and despite the fact that Margot “doesn’t like apple pie,” she had a small piece. ;)

Tomorrow I’m back to teaching!
